WAY TO GO, WAIKAIA
And it's a wrap! The 31st Goldfields Heritage Trust Cavalcade was a resounding success. The hardy participants who had traversed the stunning Southland countryside by horse, horse-drawn wagon, foot or bike, were welcomed into Waikaia on Saturday 2 March.
The town really turned it on with a real scorcher of a day, superb organisation, a buzzing market square and two hours of the Topp Twins on stage - in absolute top form. Great article on Stuff for more info and pics.
When the hard-working organisers have hitched the horses, covered the wagons and taken a breather, there will be information made available for next year's event which finishes in Twizel.
The Otago Goldfields Heritage Trust (OGHT), aims to develop, represent and promote the historical sites, trails
and events of Otago.
Take a trip back through a golden era of New Zealand’s history in the South Island’s scenic Otago region. The romance and adventure of the gold rush days is easy to recapture in this rugged landscape which still bears the signs of the goldminers’ struggles to win their fortunes by striking it RICH.
Many New Zealand families can trace their first connection with New Zealand from these early endeavours.
