2018 AGM and Field Trip around Bannockburn

Friday 5th October:     Click here to register for the Field Trip.

Meet between 10am – 10.30am at Kawarau Woolshed (signposted off Bannockburn Road, 2mins out of Bannockburn) BYO morning tea to have at the Category 1 Heritage NZ listed woolshed. Richard Anderson, will tell us the history of the station and a couple of stories from his life growing up there.

After morning tea we load into the 4WD’s among us (if you have a choice of bringing your car or a 4WD please bring the 4WD) We always have plenty of spare seats and its a good way to meet the other people on the trip! We drive up the Nevis road, along the Carrick range for a wee bit then down to Carrick Town. Richard Anderson again will be telling us stories as we go along.

BYO picnic lunch – we will have it at an appropriate spot up in the hills!

We will be back in Bannockburn by 4pm for our AGM at the Black Rabbit Cafe in Bannockburn.

After the AGM (1hr at the most) we will stay on at Black Rabbit for pre dinner drinks and then a 2 course meal from 6pm

After dinner we have Paul Crump, local historian, giving us a talk about his extensive research and collection of information and pictures about Bannockburn. This info has recently been turned into a website – have a look here http://oldbannockburn.nz/

Sarturday 6th October:

9am (yes you get a sleep-in) start at Stewart Town – Park in the ‘upper’ car-park on Pipe-Clay Gully Road (off Hall Road) Click here for a map to Hall Road (Pipe Clay Gully is not on google maps but you will see a big sign)

Terry has set up a wee ‘treasure hunt’ for you. You will get a map with a list of clues and questions to answer and if you follow the main trails (plus a few side trails) you should learn all sorts of gems of history from around the reserve.

By 11am you will be back up in Stewart Town in time for our Victorian Picnic! Lunch is provided for you (included in the fee). Sit back and watch, or partake in a few games! We will have Three Legged races, sack races, potato races, wheelbarrow races and tug-o-war!

We will also have a best dressed competition so bring your fancy Victorian bonnet and pinafore! (Blokes a top hat and waistcoat?)

We expect the frivolity to be over with by about 2pm and you can all head home.
